So much has been said about the legendary Marilyn Monroe! However, there are still so many unknown facts about this gorgeous woman. Below are 5 things you probably didn’t know about one of the biggest celebrities in the history of Hollywood.
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (1961)
Truman Capote, the author of the novel and the script of the movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” saw Monroe in the role of Holly Golightly. But Paula Strasberg, the assistant and tutor of the actress, said that it would be inappropriate for the actress to appear in the image of a “prostitute”.
So the role was given to the charming Audrey Hepburn. People say Capote was extremely disappointed in this choice. “Paramount deceived me twice by choosing Audrey,” the writer said.
The actress used this trick to overcome stammering. The gentleness, which appeared in her voice after working with a speech therapist, became one of her most striking features.
When Marilyn was shooting in “Something’s Got to Give”, her stammering returned all of a sudden. The movie was reshot under the name “Move Over, Darling” with Doris Day in the leading role.
The extremely tight dress
The crystal-covered dress, in which Monroe sang for John Kennedy in 1962, was too tight. Some people suggest that it was the dress that gave an incredible aspiration to Marilyn’s voice.
In 1999, the famous dress was sold for $1.26 million. This was a record hitting price for a single wardrobe item.
Eternity with the celebrity
Marilyn Monroe appeared on the cover of Playboy in 1953. However, the fan of silk gowns, Hugh Hefner, never met Marilyn. This was perhaps the greatest disappointment in his life!
“I talked to her once on the phone but I never got to meet her,” Hugh said. In 1992, he spent $ 75,000 for getting a crypt next to Monroe. “I’ll spend the rest of my eternity with Marilyn.”
A piece of Monroe
Many celebrities spent thousands of dollars to buy various items that once belonged to Marilyn. In 1999, Mariah Carey bought Marilyn’s pianoforte for $662,500. Designer Tommy Hilfiger paid $37,000 for the blue jeans she wore in 1954. He also bought the pair of boots which Demi Moore presented. “Pieces” of Monroe are kept in a number of private collections.
