One of Lady Gaga’s many passions is the fight against bullying. She founded and has been involved in a number of projects aimed at ending bullying in schools and encouraging people to be kind to one another. So, one can imagine her surprise and indignation when her friend shared how her daughter was bullied at an elementary school in California. It is very important to know what you can do, as an adult, in situations when a child has been bullied:
The singer decided to do something about it. She shared a video on her Instagram page letting these students and everyone know that it’s not good to do like this. She began by calling out the learners of the school and expressing how she felt about what the little girl experienced.
Hi everybody at El Marino Elementary. This is Lady Gaga. I’m friends with Venice, and I work with Venice’s mommy, Julie. I’m really, really sad to hear that Venice is being bullied at school.
Lady Gaga encouraged students to be nicer to one another and be brave enough to stand up and protect somebody. She acknowledged that a lot of students probably joined the bullying because popular kids do it. “Be braver,” she urged in the video, “go and sit with Venice and have lunch. Be a rebel.”
The video received over 1.5 million views, and a lot of people praised the star for speaking out about the situation of bullying in schools. Her words also resonated with those who have experienced bullying in one form or another while growing up.
It was a very powerful message. Sometimes, it might be easier to join the crowd when they are making other people feel bad for being different. But only a brave person can stand up and face bullies.
