The Obamas are no longer residents of the White House, but their accomplishments will never be forgotten. Michelle Obama has achieved a lot while she held the post of the First Lady, but design-lovers still cannot stop talking about the epic change she made to the Old Family Dining Room in the White House.
What was even more fascinating about this transformation was how easy it was to achieve. You’ll assume that completely making over a room will involve tossing out furniture and taking drastic measures, but Obama proved that this does not always have to be the case.
Once upon a time, the Old Family Dining Room had an outdated traditional look and feel to it. But before she left the residence, Michelle Obama made sure she changed that and transformed it into a chic, modern area. Here are the three main things she did and how you can do the same.
Paint the walls
As you might have noticed, the new color scheme of the dining room is much different from what it was. The yellow walls had been there since the Kennedy administration, and Obama was not afraid to change this. All you need is some simple grey or white paint, and you can transform a dingy looking room to something modern and classic.
Drapes and rug
Simply making new changes to the drapes and rug in a room can go a long way in transforming the space. All Obama did was get a new rug and found some drapes in cool and attractive colors to blend in the whole look.
To make the Dining Room look more modern, Obama swapped the old art for new ones, and we can see how much it lights up the place. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on art. You can buy cheaper ones, and they will go a long way to brighten up your room.
Michelle Obama did not have to throw away the furniture that were once there. She simply adopted some changes to the room around them, and we can see great difference that was made.
