A quick-thinking jewellery store owner has succeeded in nabbing a jewel thief who tried to scam him and go off with millions of dollars worth of jewellery.
The jeweller, Vladislav “Bobby” Yampolsky said that when the 46-year-old woman came into his store, he led her to the giant vault where his most expensive and exquisite gems were stored.
It turned out that it was exactly what the woman wanted but she had no intention of paying for the jewellery.
“This woman was planning on leaving with $7 million worth of diamonds without us even knowing it,” Yampolsky said in an interview with Inside Edition.
She picked out 11 rings which were worth about $7 million and the woman, named Fatima, moved to wrap up the goods herself.
“She brought her own materials,” Yampolsky recalled. “She actually brought her own role of tape out and a bunch of tissues and a little pouch. She was so nervous, I think, her hands were shaking.”
Fatima’s plan was to trick Yampolsky into taking a replica package with fake jewels and she could make away with the real ones.
Once the store owner suspected her plan, he made a move to get his jewellery back but she struggled to hold on to them. He then managed to lock the woman in the vault.
Surveillance cameras captured this whole incident. Watch what happens when the man left the woman alone and trapped in the vault.
