It happened in 1990 at the Detroit Zoo. Rick Swope was visiting the zoo when two chimps started a fight. Jo-Jo was fighting with another male as his rival pushed him to the moat. The ape was drowning. They cannot swim.
Without a moment of hesitation, Rick jumped into the water and took the chimp out. It was a very brave act, as he could die himself.
Later, Rick was asked, what prompted him to do that. And he answered, “Well, you see, I happened to look into his eyes, and it was like looking into the eyes of a man, and the message was, ‘Won’t anybody help me? So, I could not let him drown,” says the brave man.
It has been 26 years since that fascination story took place, but still, people all over the world admire this great guy. You have a big, golden heart, Rick Swope! God bless you!
